Review: I was fortunate to see this film on Sundance 2014. Lets start from the beginning with the first note of metal soundtrack writer and director Kat Candler has chosen to infuse the film with a unique, dark but powerful force. The music sets the perfect tone for the roiling anger and frustration the characters wrestle with this film.I will not go too much into the plot because part of what is great about this movie is how the story unfolds and watch the characters are riding the roller coaster of loss, hope, joy, love, fear, pride - everything. This amazing that on as short time, Candler find all of these moments, however fleeting. Much of this comes from the script, but that would not be conveyed successfully without the strength of his performers.I not watched Breaking Bad so I came into this without any preconceived notions of Aaron Paul as an actor. He was awesome in this movie. As a father who lost his anchor in the death of his wife, you can see him struggling with his own demons as he also knows that he has to do right by his son. Beginner Josh Wiggins has a face that shows everything, every grimace of disappointment and hurt ever and each brightness mischief. The roles are also impressive. The kids are all players before the movie and yet it is quite natural and you will feel deeply for each of them. Juliette Lewis, an actor, I do not act outside its quirks, provides the most grounded, genuine performance I've ever seen from her.this film will be released nationwide in the summer of theaters and on VOD. Do not miss it. |
