Review: The Host is one of those films I went to see for the actors and the hype. I have to say, it did amuse me when I saw the 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes this morning. However, it wasnt as bad as most of the critics think. It did have its moments. Of course, the start is very weird as Saiorse Ronan starts talking to herself. Once you get used to it, its not that bad.The movie is also hilarious in some parts - both unintentionally and intentionally. Watch for the bit where Melanie/Wanderer is reunited with her family. Some parts were also awfully cheesy - but I like to think it often pokes fun at itself. Maybe. Hopefully. Also, some parts of the story which were actually interesting were not delved deep enough into. Having not read the book, I cant say how accurate the movie is, but it concentrates more on Oh my god I like Jareeeed, Oh my God you like Ian! than the actual, yknow, humans being invaded and taken over by Hosts. Maybe that was the fault of the author, but it did have a lot more potential in the actual storyline department. However, the acting was decent-ish. Some of the action scenes were also cool. And the storyline was a hell of a lot better than Twilight. To sum up: it was hilarious, and theres cute boys (because thats why they made it hurrr). It wasnt as bad as some critics are saying, but it wasnt the most fantastic movie ever, either. |
